Avulsion fracture of the pelvis: separation of the secondary ossification center in the superior margin of the acetabulum.
A 13-year-old female sustained a rare avulsion fracture of the secondary ossification center in the superior margin of the acetabulum as the result of contraction of the reflected head of the rectus femoris muscle. Diagnosis was made from plain films and CT scans with 3D image reconstruction. The patient was treated non-operatively by bed rest with semiflexion of the hip and knee, and appropria...
متن کاملProximal rectus femoris lengthening.
There are two main problems with muscle tendon lengthening: thinness created by the technical procedure weakens the tendon, and in short tendons, lengthening may not provide enough length for the amount of joint motion required. In proximal rectus femoris lengthening, the distal ends of the reflected and straight heads are sutured together. Using this technique, the tendon will not be thinned, ...
متن کاملUnilateral short rectus femoris muscle belly
Introduction Rectus femoris is a spindle shaped muscle forming part of the quadriceps muscle group in the anterior compartment of the thigh. Traditionally, it is described as having two heads which arise as a straight tendon from the anterior inferior iliac spine and a reflected tendon from the ilium just above the acetabulum. Recent studies have shown that the anatomy of the muscle is more com...

The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effect of three types of shoe insoles, on electromyography activity of selected lower extremity muscles during running on treadmill. The electromyography activity of the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius lateralis muscles of 14 male athletes were recorded in non-insole,...
متن کاملAvulsion of the direct head of rectus femoris following arthroscopic subspine impingement resection: a case report
Arthroscopic resection of the anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) for subspine impingement has become a relatively common procedure. The AIIS is the origin of the direct head of rectus femoris (dhRF). Previous studies have reported that removal of the contributing portion of the AIIS causing impingement is unlikely to weaken the attachment of the dhRF. The purpose of this article is to report ...
